Elendor MUSH is the oldest continuously running Tolkien role-playing game on the internet. A "MUSH" (Multi-User Shared Hallucination) is a text-based interactive online game in which players navigate and explore a world of textually described landscapes and characters. Elendor MUSH has been continuously running since 1991 and now boasts over 2000 players and a huge world of over 5000 completely unique locations to explore. New players can choose from 5 different species (human, elf, hobbit, dwarf, or orc) and join one of over 20 different cultures (see our cultures page for activity statistics, updated daily).

Elendor is completely free and no registration is required to play. All you need to do is either download some free software or, for a quicker start (but a lower quality experience) you can connect immediately using only the software already on your computer by clicking here. If your browser is configured properly, a telnet window will open and you'll see login instructions.

Elendor is presently ONLINE. Sauron has brought a copy of the database up on a temporary server - you can connect to it at your usual 'mush.elendor.net' or 'refuge.elendor.net', 1892 / 1893. Please bear in mind that this hardware is temporary, and there may be instabilities.

This year will mark Elendor's 17th anniversary, truly making it one of the longest continually-running games on the Internet. Many thanks to the thousands of players who have called us 'home' over the years, we couldn't have done it without you! Here's to another 17!
